Straight knitting needles, size 10 (7.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
2 Double pointed knitting needles, size 8 (5.00 mm)
One 1” button
Tapestry needle
1 Pair (2) 8" black patent leather handles with a 4" dowel set and 1/2" finials from Homestead Heirlooms

Pattern Stitch (Multiple of 3 sts + 1)
Row 1 (RS): Purl.
Row 2: K1, * p1, k2, rep from * across.
Rep these 2 rows for Pat St.
Bag
With straight needles, cast on 102 sts.
Row 1 (RS): K2, * p2, k2 rep from * across.
Row 2: P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 2 3/4” from beg, end on WS, inc 1 st at end of last row – 103 sts. Work even in Pat St until piece measures 9” from beg, end on WS.
Next Row (RS): Bind off 99 sts – 4 sts. Sl these 4 sts onto one dpn and make I-Cord as follows:
Row 1: * K4, do not turn work. Slide sts to beg of needle to work next row from RS. Rep from * until cord measures 4”. Fasten off.
Finishing
Sew side edges of bag tog. This will be the center front. Fold bag flat and sew bound-off edge tog with I-Cord on one end. Sew free end of I-Cord to the opposite end of bottom seam forming a loop. Sew button to center front seam at bottom of ribbing. Button I-Cord loop around button. Position one handle on center front of bag and sew to cast-on edge with tapestry needle. Repeat with the other handle on back of bag.
